Edmund Jäger (born January 22, 1864 in Neuberg bei Asch , † July 21, 1935 in Unter Sandau ) was an Austrian politician ( Pan-German Association ) and a doctor. From 1905 to 1918 he was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives , Mayor of Sandau and a member of the state government of German Bohemia.

Life

Jäger was born the son of a farmer. After primary school, he attended grammar school in Mies and Eger and subsequently studied medicine at the University of Vienna , the University of Jena and the University of Kiel . Jäger performed his military service with the Infantry Regiment No. 86 , where he last held the degree of assistant doctor in the reserve. Jäger was subsequently active as a doctor in Sangerberg .

In the political field, Jäger was committed to the Pan-German Unification , and after the death of his party colleague Ernst Bareuther, he was elected as his successor for the constituency of Eger, Franzensbad, Asch etc. in the House of Representatives of the Reichsrat ( 10th legislative period ). After the introduction of the Reichsrat election regulations in 1907 , Jäger was able to prevail in the runoff election against a candidate from the Social Democrats in the 1907 Reichsrat election in the electoral district of Bohemia ( 11th legislative period ). In the 1911 Reichsrat election, Jäger also won the runoff election against a Social Democrat. Jäger was a member of the House of Representatives until 1918 ( 12th legislative period ) and belonged to the German-Bohemian state government during the collapse of the monarchy. From October 21, 1918 to February 16, 1919 he was a member of the Provisional National Assembly . He was also Mayor of Sandau from 1911 to 1923 and from 1928 to 1935.

Jäger was the father of the Aachen physiologist and ophthalmologist Alfred Jäger .
