The Edmund River is a river in the Gascoyne region in the west of the Australian state of Western Australia .
geography
The river has its source south of the Barlee Range and flows southwest to its confluence with the Lyons River between the settlements of Gilford and Mangaroon .

history
The first European to discover the river was the explorer Francis Gregory in 1858 . General John Septimus Roe named it after the naval hero Admiral Sir Edmund Lyons .
