The Lyons River is a river in the Gascoyne region in the west of the Australian state of Western Australia .
geography
The river rises in the western part of the Teano Range , then flows first to the northwest to the settlement of Gifford , then to the west to the settlement of Mangaroon and finally to the south to its confluence with the Gascoyne River at the small town of Gascoyne Junction near the southern tip of the Kennedy -Range National Parks .

history
The first European to discover the river was the explorer Francis Gregory in 1858 . He named it after the naval hero Admiral Sir Edmund Lyons .
The Aborigines , the Malgaru , call the river Mithering .
