Eduard Arnold

Eduard Arnold (born August 30, 1895 in Lucerne ; † April 2, 1977 there , entitled to live in Neuenkirch , then in Lucerne) was a Swiss politician (SP) and federal judge .

Life and judicial career

Eduard Arnold was born on August 30, 1895 in Lucerne as the son of the engraver and co-founder of the first self-supporting health insurances in the Bernese Jura and in Lucerne Vinzenz Bernard Arnold. After attending grammar school in Lucerne, Eduard Arnold began studying law at the universities of Bern and Zurich until 1920 , before he was admitted to the bar in Lucerne in 1921.

As a result, Eduard Arnold ran his own legal practice from 1927 to 1942. At the same time he served as the SP's first substitute judge at the Lucerne High Court from 1926 to 1942. In addition, he held the same position at the Lucerne District Court from 1929 to 1937 and then at the Swiss Federal Insurance Court in Lucerne until 1942 . Finally he served as a federal judge from 1942 to 1962.

Eduard Arnold was married to Anna Katharina, the daughter of the electrician Josef Vogel. He died on April 2, 1977 five months before he would have turned 82 in Lucerne.

Political functions

In 1924 Eduard Arnold joined the Swiss Social Democratic Party. At the municipal level, he was a member of the Lucerne City Council from 1927 to 1942 . At the cantonal level, he was represented in the Grand Council of the Canton of Lucerne between 1931 and 1935 . In addition, he was a member of the National Council at the federal level from 1935 to 1942 .

Eduard Arnold also presided over the Workers' Union from 1928 to 1936 and the VPOD from 1937 to 1942 . In addition, he was defeated in 1929 as a candidate for the city council to the liberal Max Wey . Eduard Arnold was actively involved in the StGB , which came into force in 1942.
