Eduard Philipp Arnold

Eduard Philipp Arnold (born August 20, 1866 in Mannheim ; † July 29, 1934 in Aachen ) was a German architect , lecturer and author .

Live and act

Eduard Philipp Arnold began teaching as a senior teacher at the building trade school in Aachen on October 1, 1900 , where he taught building history , form theory and building surveying . On January 6, 1908, he became a teacher a year later, Professor appointed in 1925 as Deputy Director. Arnold, who was married to Regina Seibert, retired on August 31, 1931 and died three years later at the age of 67 in Forster Hospital.

Eduard Arnold's research on the history of buildings focused on urban residential buildings. He sketched historical house types in many places, recorded the parcel boundaries of the Aachen streets and registered the house owners during the 19th century. Even before the publication of his work Das Altaachener Wohnhaus , he gave lectures on the history of building methods in Aachen in 1909 to the Aachen Technicians' Association and in 1913 to the Aachen History Association.

His estate is in the city archive of the city of Aachen.

  • 1895–1898: Further construction of the Matthäuskirche (Saarbrücken-Burbach) after the collapse of the church building by Karl Doflein at an early stage of construction in 1892
  • 1894–1895: Competition design for a girls' school in Darmstadt
  • 1899: Competition design for a Protestant church in Krefeld
  • 1900: Competition design for a Protestant church in (Bonn-) Poppelsdorf
  • 1902: Competition design for the college building of the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg im Breisgau (together with Matthias Stamnitz, city architect in Freiburg)
  • 1902–1904: Evangelical Luther Church in Krefeld, Lutherplatz / Melanchthonstraße (preserved with changes, a listed building)
  • 1905: House in Aachen, Nordstrasse / Kardinalstrasse 3
Arnold arranged the staircase diagonally to the other rooms and thus set a new accent.
