Eduard I von Bar (* 1296 ; † November 11, 1336 in Famagusta ) was Count von Bar from 1302 until his death .

Life

Eduard was the son of Count Heinrich III. von Bar and Eleanor of England , a daughter of King Edward I. When his father died in 1302, still a minor, he was under the tutelage of his uncles, Rainald Bishop of Metz , Theobald Bishop of Liège and Johann Herr von Puisaye. Raised at the French court, he married Marie (* 1296; † before 1336) in 1310, the daughter of Robert II , Duke of Burgundy . With his marriage declared of legal age, he was allied with Burgundy and France. He fought with the dukes of Luxembourg and Lorraine in the war of the four lords against Metz . In 1328 he took the side of King Philip VI. of France took part in the Battle of Cassel against the Flemish Communards . He moved with Philip III. from Namur and other nobles to the Orient, but was slain in 1336 in Cyprus with his companions by the inhabitants of Famagusta.
