County Marle

The rule and later county of Marle was a northern French fiefdom with the town of Marle in the later Aisne department as its center. The area belonged to 10/11. Century a member of the House of Roucy and in the following centuries was often inherited in a female line to different families.

The most famous Count of Marle is Robert von Bar , who - after his inheritance, the Duchy of Bar , had been withheld from him - was compensated (among other things) with the county of Marle in 1413. With Robert's only daughter Johanna, the county came to the House of Luxemburg-Ligny , and later to the Bourbons.
