Eduard Ihlée
Johann Eduard Ihlée (born October 22, 1812 in Kassel , Kingdom of Westphalia ; † February 15, 1885 ibid) was a German history and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
After Ihlée had started studying at the Kassel Art Academy under the painter Friedrich Wilhelm Müller (1801-1889), he moved to the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1836 , where the history painter Wilhelm Schadow became his teacher. In 1837 he traveled to Rome . He stayed there until 1842 and met the history painter Andreas Müller , who - like their mutual teacher Schadow - inspired him in the spirit of the Nazenian conception of art . In Frankfurt am Main , Ihlée then became a student of Philipp Veit , whose daughter he married. During longer stays in Italy, which took place in the period 1853–1871, he drew copies of a large number of paintings by old masters, which were purchased for the Neue Galerie Kassel in the 1880s . In 1872, after his return from Italy, he became a teacher at the Kunstakademie Kassel , where he became a professor from 1875.
