Eduard Nápravník
Eduard Nápravník (also: Eduard Franzevich Napravnik * 24. August 1839 in Býšť , Bohemia † 10; jul. / 23. November 1916 greg. In Petrograd ) was a Russian composer and conductor of Czech origin.
Live and act
Nápravník was born in the school house of Býšť as the second son of the teacher František Nápravník and his wife Barbara, née Clanner von Engelshofen. In 1843 the family moved to Dašice , where the father took over the position of school principal. Together with his one year older brother Karel, he first attended the elementary school in Dašice and then the community school in Pardubice . In 1850 his mother died of tuberculosis at the age of 34, three years later his father died at the age of 57.
Even as a schoolboy, Nápravník mastered the organ so well that his uncle Augustin Svoboda was able to send him to the church in Hostovice to represent the organist. He had previously represented his father in the Dašice church. Nápravník studied from 1853 at the Prague Organ School with Karl Franz Pitsch and František Blažek. He also took piano lessons at the Peter Maydl Music Institute in Prague , where he then taught himself.
In 1862 he became conductor of the Imperial Opera in Saint Petersburg; in this capacity he directed the premiere of the opera Boris Godunow . In addition, from 1869 to 1881 he directed the symphony concerts of the Imperial Russian Music Society and conducted at the Mariinsky Theater .
He composed four operas , four symphonies , a piano concerto , chamber music works, piano pieces, choral works and songs .
