Eduard Ortgies (painter)
Eduard Ortgies (born October 19, 1859 in Zurich ; † June 25, 1896 there ) was a Swiss landscape and animal painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Ortgies, son of the botanist Eduard Ortgies and brother of the landscape painter Vida Ortgies (1858–1955), initially took private lessons with the genre painter Julius Geertz in Düsseldorf , where he stayed for two years. From 1878 he studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and in the following years at the academies in Karlsruhe and Weimar . In 1882/1883 he worked in the studio of the Zurich animal painter Rudolf Koller , after which he lived in Munich and Bayrischzell until 1890 . He then returned to his hometown, where he died at the age of 36.
