Eduard Reyer (born May 16, 1849 in Salzburg ; † July 11, 1914 in Jena ) was an Austrian geologist after completing a law degree (Dr. jur. Innsbruck 1871) .

Eduard Reyer was, together with Constantin Nörrenberg , the initiator of the library movement . In addition to his geological research, he was a supporter of the Vienna People's Education Association and later founded the Central Library Association . His study trips took him to the USA and Great Britain, where he got to know the large public libraries. After his return in 1886 he wrote an article about American libraries for the “Centralblatt für Bibliothekswesen” (Central Journal for Library Science) and thus became a pioneer of the book hall movement. In 1885 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

In 1930 the Eduard-Reyer-Gasse in Vienna- Döbling (19th district) was named after him.
