Life

Little is known about Eduard Schultze's biography.

For the first time, “Schultze Eduard, Photograph” can be found in the Heidelberg address book in the 1867/68 edition on page 86 with the address “Plöckstrasse 79”. From the edition of 1883 the addition "Hofphotograph" can be found. In the edition of the Heidelberg address book for 1885 and subsequent years, “ Heinrich Boppel , Hofphotograph” is named as the owner of “E. Schultze ”. In magazines there are also terms such as “Schultze successor” or “Schultze Nachf.” As additions to the name. From 1890, Max Kögel became the owner of the photographic studio “E. Schultze ”in the address books. In an advertisement under advertising in the address book from 1890, he announced that he was the court photographer of the King of Württemberg.

Remarks

  1. Applies to the “population register”; also recorded in the “Resident Directory by Professional Business” (Photographen) (p. 113).
  2. From the data in the address books for the address "Plöckstrasse 79" it is not possible to determine whether there actually existed rooms such as a studio that would have allowed sufficient incidence of light to take photographs and related activities such as development , retouching u. a. would have admitted.
  3. An advertisement in the 1889 edition under advertising (page VI) shows that Eduard Schultze was court photographer of the Queen of Sweden and Norway .
  4. P. 130, Boppel was since March 1884 court photographer of the King of Württemberg (Eberhard Fritz: servant, coachman, cook, valet, king . On the social history of the royal court in Württemberg (1806 to 1918). In: Zeitschrift für Württembergische Landesgeschichte 66 / 2007. pp. 249-292). Heinrich Boppel had probably already taken photos in the mid-1960s. He was based in Heilbronn. There are reverses of photographs that were stamped “Photography by H. Boppel” and later with the printed text “Heinrich Boppel vormals Fleischmann” (Heilbronn). Christian Ludwig Fleischmann (1839–1871) had separated from his partner Friedrich Berrer and in March 1867 opened his own "Photographic Institution" (advertisement in: Schwäbische Chronik des Schwäbischen Merkurs , Second Department, Friday, March 8, 1867, p. 600 ). This studio Boppel probably had in 1871 after the death of Fleischmanns taken ( photography. In: town history, history AZ. Stadtarchiv Heilbronn, accessed on February 17, 2018 . ). There are also lapels with the text: “H. Boppel, Photographische Anstalt, Mannheim “.
  5. It is conceivable that only the name of the predecessor Boppel was replaced by Kögel in the advertisement, whereby the designation "Court photographer of the King of Württemberg" was retained.
