Eduard Straßmayr

Eduard Straßmayr (born January 25, 1885 in Aschach an der Steyr , † May 31, 1960 in Linz ) was an Austrian historian and archivist .

Life

Eduard Straßmayr graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Seitenstetten and studied history at the University of Vienna . In 1908 he became an employee at the Upper Austrian Provincial Archives . From 1914 to 1918 he did military service in World War I. From 1934 to 1938, Straßmayr was a member of the city council in Linz and head of the Upper Austrian provincial civil servants as part of the Fatherland Front. After the " Anschluss of Austria " he was forced to retire. From 1941 to 1944 he did military service in World War II .

In 1945 Straßmayr was rehabilitated and was acting head of the Linz study library until 1947 , from 1947 he was director of the Upper Austrian Provincial Archives. Straßmayr reactivated the Upper Austrian Museum Association in 1946 , and remained its president until 1959.

He published numerous scientific articles on the history of Upper Austria . He was a member of the Norica Catholic academic fraternity . His estate is in the Upper Austrian Provincial Archives.
