Eduard Werner (Slavist)

Eduard Werner (Sorbian Edward Wornar , born April 21, 1966 in Bendorf ) is a German Slavic scholar and executive director of the Institute for Sorabic Studies at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Eduard Werner grew up in Rhineland-Palatinate . He first studied palaeontology in Bonn , then switched to Slavic and Indo-European Studies , learned Russian and Polish , Lithuanian , Latvian and Esperanto , and finally specialized in Sorabic Studies .

Since 1993 he has been a research assistant in the Linguistics department of the Sorbian Institute in Bautzen . Since 2003 he has been teaching as professor for Sorabistics at the University of Leipzig and as such is also director of the Institute for Sorabistics.

Werner lives in Leipzig and describes himself as "Sorbs with a migration background". He is married to a Lithuanian and has several children.
