Eduard von Duczyński , also Eduard von Dutczyński , (born December 29, 1823 in Załoźce , Galicia , † March 26, 1861 in Miękisz Stary , Galicia) was an Austrian officer , draftsman and watercolor painter .

Life

Eduard von Duczyński was born on December 29, 1823 in the village of Załoźce in Galicia, in today's Ukraine , and graduated from the Theresian Military Academy in the castle in Wiener Neustadt at an advanced age . In 1842 he was stationed with the rank of lieutenant in the Galician Infantry Regiment "Freiherr von Georgi" No. 15 . In 1848 he was involved in combat operations in Vienna and in 1849 in Hungary . In 1859 he fought in the Sardinian War near Magenta and Solferino ( Battle of Solferino ) in Lombardy . The talented hobby draftsman created sketches of cultural and historical interest, which he made during this campaign in 1859. The sketches turned into valuable watercolor studies. Subsequently, von Duczyński was used on the General Staff for mapping in the war history office and was employed as a teacher at the Theresian Military Academy. On March 26, 1861, Eduard von Duczyński died at the age of 39 not far from his Galician homeland. His niece Irma von Duczynska was a painter and sculptor who mainly worked in Vienna and Munich. Her sister Helena was also a painter.
