Eduard Joseph Alexander Hubert von Hagens (born March 1, 1813 in Düsseldorf ; † January 17, 1888 there ) was a German history painter from the Düsseldorf School .

His parents were the lawyer at the Düsseldorf Regional Court, Adam Hubertus von Hagens (* August 2, 1773; † July 10, 1839), and his wife Anna Katharina Johanna Josefa Franziska Gertrudis Maria, née Scholl (* March 18, 1779; † 7. May 1864).

Life

Von Hagens studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1830 to 1837 . The architect Karl Friedrich Schaeffer and the painters Karl Ferdinand Sohn and Theodor Hildebrandt were his teachers there. In 1837 he exhibited at the Kunstverein Leipzig , in 1838 at the Berlin Academy Exhibition and at the Karlsruhe Art Exhibition. In 1847 he appeared with the painting Brunhilde, based on the Nibelungenlied . He reflected on the German Revolution of 1848/1849 in 1849 with the Allegory Germany 1848/1849 executed in watercolor .

In 1888 he died unmarried in Düsseldorf.
