Eduardo Arménio do Nascimento Cabrita (born September 26, 1961 in Barreiro ) is a Portuguese lawyer and politician of the Partido Socialista (PS). From 2015 to 2017, Cabrita was Deputy Prime Minister of Portugal in the Costa I cabinet . Following the resignation of Constança Urbano de Sousa , he was appointed Minister of the Interior on October 18, 2017.

Professional background

Cabrita studied law at the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon . After his licenciado , Cabrita taught public finance and tax law from 1982 to 1988 and was a member of the board of directors of the same university from 1984 to 1985. From 1986 he was integrated into the legal service of the Portuguese Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira (Financial Administration). He was also a member of the General Council of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities.

From 1988 to 1990, Cabrita was a lecturer in the Law Faculty of the University of Macau . In the Cabinet Sócrates I he was between 2005 and 2009. Secretary of State. He is also a past President of the National Assembly's Economic and Financial Commission. In the last electoral term he became known during a dispute with the then State Secretary for Taxation , Paulo Núncio , from whom he removed the microphone several times in a budget committee meeting for finances and public administration, which he chaired and did not allow him to speak. Cabrito is married to Ana Paula Vitorino , Minister of the Sea .
