Ana Paula Vitorino (born April 25, 1962 in Lourenço Marques ) is a Portuguese politician of the Partido Socialista (PS), who was Minister for Marine Affairs from 2015 to 2019.

Life

After attending school, Ana Paula Vitorino began studying civil engineering with a focus on urban and transport engineering at the Technical University Institute IST ( Instituto Superior Técnico ) , which she graduated in 1986. She then completed a course in organization and management in transport at the IST in 1987 and has worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Urbanism, Transport, Roads and Systems at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources at the IST since 1989. At the same time, in 1989 she also became a research scientist at the Center for Urban and Regional Systems CESUR (Centro de Sistemas Urbanos e Regionais) and was subsequently involved in and authored numerous research and development projects in the areas of strategic and operational planning and management for transport several articles in the fields of transport, infrastructure, logistics and marine economics in specialist journals. In 1992 she also earned a master's degree in transportation from IST.

During the tenure of the first cabinet (XIII Governo Constitucional) of Prime Minister António Guterres she was from October 28, 1995 to October 25, 1999 head of cabinet of the Secretary of State for Transport. From 1999 to 2002 she was group leader for planning, construction, delivery, financing, operation and maintenance of the light rail company Metro Sul do Tejo (MST). At the same time, she served as a member from 2000 to 2001 and then from 2001 to 2002 as President of the Executive Committee of the Institute for the Administration of Finances and Property of Justice (Instituto de Gestão Financeira e Patrimonial da Justiça) .

In the first cabinet (XVII Governo Constitucional) of Prime Minister José Sócrates she held the office of State Secretary for Transport (Secretária de Estado dos Transportes) between March 12, 2005 and October 26, 2009 and was thus one of the closest employees of the Minister for Public Affairs Buildings, Transport and Communication Mário Lino . In this function, she dealt in particular with new planning for the light rail system in Coimbra , the Metro Mondego .

In 2009 Ana Paula Vitorino was elected as a candidate of the Partido Socialista (PS) as a member of the Assembly of the Republic ( Assembleia da República ) and was a member of it until 2015. Ana Paula Vitorino, who also became a member of the National Political Commission of the PS in 2012, took over the post of Minister for Maritime Affairs (Ministra do Mar) in the Cabinet (XXI Governo Constitucional) of Prime Minister António Costa on November 26, 2015 .

She is married to Eduardo Cabrita , who took over the post of Vice Prime Minister and then Minister of the Interior under Prime Minister Costa.
