Edvard Grimstad

Edvard Grimstad (born March 29, 1933 in Råde , Fylke Østfold ; † April 3, 2014 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Senterpartiet , who was a member of the Storting for eight years and was most recently its vice-president from 1993 to 1997. Subsequently, between 1998 and 2003 he was regional president ( Fylkesmann ) of Østfold.

Life

Degree, development worker and farmer

Grimstad, whose parents were Johan E. Grimstad and Marie Gammelsrød farmers, completed his education from 1940 to 1947 at the Folkeskole Råde and then at the secondary school in Råde, before he attended the provincial school (Fylkesskole) in Rygge between 1949 and 1950 . After a subsequent visit to the agricultural community college (Bondelagets folkehøgskole) in Eidsberg , he completed the agricultural school in Kalnes from 1952 to 1954 and then a cooperation course at the winter agricultural school. After completing primary school, he worked on his parents' farm from 1947 to 1955 and was then a control assistant in Furnes between 1955 and 1956 . He then worked from 1956 to 1958 as a youth functionary for the Norwegian Rural Youth (Norges Bygdeungdomslag) .

In 1958 Grimstad began a preparatory course at the Norwegian School of Agriculture , where he then studied agricultural science and economics from 1959 to 1962 . After completing his studies, he worked briefly in 1962 as a research assistant at the Norwegian School of Agriculture and then from 1962 to 1966 as a consultant and organizational manager in a slaughterhouse.

During this time he also acted as chairman of the Norwegian rural youth from 1962 to 1966 and was also chairman of the national council of the Norwegian youth organizations LNU (Landsrådet for norske ungdomsorganisasjoner) between 1964 and 1966 . In 1966 he took over his parents' farm, but also worked for two years from 1966 to 1968 as a consultant in development aid in Kenya .

Grimstad, who had been a farmer in Råde since 1968, was secretary of the board of the Norwegian Farmers' Union (Norges Bondelag) from 1968 to 1975 . He began his political involvement in local politics and was a member of the local council of Råde between 1971 and 1975, and from 1975 to 1976 first community leader and later from 1979 to 1981 deputy community leader.

In addition, he was first chairman of the board from 1975 to 1977 and then administrative director of Gartnerhallen between 1977 and 1981 . In the meantime he acted as chairman of the Senterpartiet in Fylke Østfold from 1976 to 1980. At the same time he was CEO of the family business Grimstad Konservesfabrikk A / S from 1977 to 1981 . From 1983 to 1987 he was also the coordinator of a development aid project in Mozambique . At the same time he was a member of the provincial parliament ( Fylkesting ) of Østfold from 1983 to 1987 .

Member and Vice President of Storting and Fylkesmann

In the 1989 election, Grimstad was first elected as a member of the Storting as a candidate for the Senterpartiet and represented the interests of Fylke Østfold there until 1997. Initially was a member of the Defense Committee and then from November 1990 to September 1993 member of the Justice Committee of the Storting. He was also a member of the delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations between January 1992 and September 1993 .

Most recently he was Vice President of Storting from October 11, 1993 to September 30, 1997. He also acted as secretary of the mandate review committee and as vice-chairman of the electoral committee. He was also a member of the board of the Senterpartiet parliamentary group during this time .

After leaving Storting, Grimstad became District President (Fylkesmann) of Østfold in 1998 and held this position until 2003.
