Edward Evans, 3rd Baron Mountevans

Edward Evans, 3rd Baron Mountevans ( February 1, 1943 - December 21, 2014 ) was a British peer and politician .

Life

Edward Patrick Broke Andvord Evans was born to Richard Andvord Evans, 2nd Baron Mountevans (1918–1974) and his wife Deirdre Grace O'Connell († 1997). He attended rugby college. In 1965 he graduated at Trinity College of Oxford University with a Bachelor of Arts from (BA).

From 1961 to 1966 he was a lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Transport (RCT) of the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve (TAVR). Various activities as a manager in business followed. He began his professional career at Consolidated Goldfields (1966–1972), a company specializing in the mining of gold and silver . In 1972 he moved to the British Tourist Authority (BTA). There he was initially (1972/1973) responsible as Assistant Marketing Manager for Sweden and Finland . In 1976 he became Promotion Services Manager at BTA. From 1982 to 1989 he worked there as a marketing manager. Since 1989 he has continued to work as a freelance advisor for the British Tourist Authority.

With the death of his father on December 12, 1974, he inherited the title of Baron Mountevans in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Membership in the House of Lords

Inheriting the title of Baron Mountevans, Evans became an official member of the House of Lords on December 12, 1974 . He was a formal member of the House of Lords from December 12, 1974 to November 11, 1999. In 1980 he took his seat in the House of Lords. He gave his inaugural address on June 18, 1981, in the context of a debate on transport policy and the role of the state railway company British Rail . Evans was an active member of the House of Lords. A total of almost 300 verbal contributions by Edward Evans between 1981 and 1999 are documented in Hansard . On October 18, 1999, he spoke for the last time in the Road Traffic: Speeding debate. In his last remarks, Evans, who himself did not have a driver's license because he had never acquired a driver's license, spoke out against tightening road traffic laws.

His membership in the House of Lords ended on November 11, 1999 by the House of Lords Act 1999 .

Private

Evans married Johanna Maria Keyzer, daughter of Antonius Franciscus Keyzer, on July 20, 1974. His wife was from The Hague , Netherlands . The marriage remained childless. The heir to the title Baron Mountevans is therefore his younger brother Jeffrey Evans, 4th Baron Mountevans (* 1948).

He lived in Chelsea . The memorial service took place on January 12, 2015 at All Saints' Church in Milford-on-Sea .
