Edward Sarpei (born June 25, 1969 in Tema ) is a former Ghanaian football player .

Career

Sarpei began his professional career in 1993 with 1. FC Cologne in the Bundesliga . The striker made his league debut on the first day of the season, August 7, 1993, when he was substituted on by coach Morten Olsen in the 69th minute for Dirk Lehmann . Shortly afterwards he came on two more short assignments. Sarpei played a total of five competitive games this year (three times in the Bundesliga, twice in the DFB-Pokal ) for the billy goats , whereby he only started in the DFB-Pokal game on September 11, 1993 against the reserves of FC Bayern Munich , however, it was substituted for Henri Fuchs in the ninth minute . It was also the attacker's last game for FC . Because of injuries he got less and less attention in the course. At the end of the season he left Cologne and moved to the Austrian club SK Vorwärts Steyr , where he only stayed for a short time and both sides separated again during the winter break of 1994/95. Finally he moved to SC Rondorf . In the summer of 1995 Sarpei signed with FC Homburg , who had just been relegated from the second division to the Regionalliga West / Südwest. With the FCH , Sarpei caused a stir in the DFB Cup after defeating FC St. Pauli in the first round , then SV Sandhausen and TSV 1860 Munich 2-1 each. Sarpei was used in all three cup games. The offensive player also played for Homburg in the quarter-finals against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on November 7, 1995. Only after extra time did the team have to admit defeat to the eventual cup winner 3: 4. In the league they just failed to get promoted again and only came third behind FC Gütersloh and Rot-Weiss Essen . Sarpei stayed for another three years and only narrowly missed promotion with Homburg in 1997/98. After the bankruptcy and the forced relegation of the club at the end of the 1998/99 season, the striker left the club and joined Yurdumspor Cologne . More sub-class amateur clubs followed by 2010. For example SSV Hagen , to which Sarpei moved in 2005, which he left after only six months.
