The Egglburg , also called Ekkilinpurc or simply Burgstall , is an abandoned early medieval hilltop castle at 585 m above sea level. NN on the Kirchberg between Hinteregglburg and Vorderegglburg , districts of the city of Ebersberg in the district of Ebersberg in Bavaria .
The castle was built by the Counts of Ebersberg during the early Middle Ages and was mentioned as an oppidum in 1080 . In the 12th century it was owned by the Lords of Egglburg, and in 1135 a Purchardus de Ekelburg was named. Nothing has been preserved from the former castle , today the site is registered as a ground monument D-1-7937-0021 "Castle stalls of the early and high Middle Ages (" oppidum Eckilinpurc ")" by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .
