Carl Johan Ehrnfried Wahlqvist , also Ernfried Wahlqvist or Ehrenfried Wahlqvist (born March 26, 1815 in Ystad , Skåne , Sweden ; † May 3, 1895 in Stockholm ), was a Swedish landscape and marine painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Wahlqvist was initially a trumpeter in a Swedish hussar regiment . Then he studied painting in Copenhagen before he stayed in Düsseldorf between 1850 and 1855 , where he was a private student of the landscape painter Carl Hilgers .

Wahlqvist mainly painted landscapes, not infrequently romantic motifs in the moonlight, often seascapes, more rarely genre pictures and portraits. His works have been shown in art associations and at international exhibitions.
