Architecture and history

The representative villa, built on a square floor plan, was built in 1911 according to plans by the master builder Behrendt. The four facades of the house are each designed differently. They are characterized by projections in the form of risalits and variously designed polygonal oriels . The east facade facing the street is dominated by two projections reminiscent of squat towers. Between them there is a polygonal entrance loggia protruding from the front of the building . A balcony is arranged above the loggia . A side staircase is arranged on the southern side of the east facade. To the west towards the garden is a wide central projection. The façade is structured by large colossal columns, some of which are asymmetrical and in the style of the construction period.

The design was carried out in the style of neoclassicism , with decorative elements only being used very cautiously. The highlighted console cornice, whose console plate protrudes clearly, is striking. The decorative elements are partly in an Egyptian and partly in a neo-Romanesque style, but also oriels and wooden window aedicules. The overall appearance is of an eclecticism that has been taken to extremes . The building is covered by a steep hipped roof .

On the ground floor of the house, living and social rooms are arranged around a central hall. The upper floor houses bedrooms and living rooms. The stairwell inside the building is spacious and extends over both floors with its lavishly designed arcade architecture. The massive columns are partly provided with neo-Romanesque capitals. Other design elements such as doors, banisters and the stucco are designed in the style of the late Art Nouveau with elements of neoclassicism. Overall, the building is based on Magdeburg Art Nouveau, in the form of the Magdeburg School of Applied Arts and Crafts under Albin Müller .

Since the withdrawal of the Western Group of Troops (WGT) stationed in the Herrenkrug in 1994, the (formerly officer's) building has stood empty and deteriorated. Foreclosure auction and multiple changes of ownership made it difficult or impossible to revitalize the wasteland threatened with disposal. A comprehensive, listed building will be carried out from May 2015.

The villa is listed in the local monument register under registration number 094 71119 as a monument .

The villa is an important example of upper-class living culture and villa architecture from the beginning of the 20th century.
