The village of Eichenstein is on the edge of the Höllental in the Franconian Forest Nature Park . Eichenstein is a part of the community Issigau in the district of Hof . Before the regional reform in Bavaria , Eichenstein belonged to the Reitzenstein community .

Eichenstein is one of the cradles of cross-country skiing in the Franconian Forest. The Skiclub (SC) Eichenstein-Issigau was founded as early as 1951. The association takes part in numerous competitions and operates the Issigau – Reitzenstein – Sinterrasen cross-country ski run .
