14.-18. century

The place Reitzenstein was mentioned for the first time in 1325: Konrad von der Grun called himself Konrad von Reichzenstein after his ancestral seat, the Veste Reitzenstein (569 m above sea level). The ancestral seat of the Barons von Reitzenstein passed into other hands over time. The St. Wolfgang Castle Chapel was later abandoned. Parts of the altar found a new place in the Issigau church . Reitzenstein was the seat of the court until the middle of the 19th century. Originally the manor owned the high jurisdiction , the field name Galgenbühl still reminds of it. In the end there was only one patrimonial court .

19th century

After the incorporation in Bavaria, the tasks of the "royal Bavarian adelich von Püttner's partimonial court Reitzenstein" were transferred to the Naila district court. In the area of the former Reitzenstein manor, the municipalities of Reitzenstein, Issigau and Kemlas were created by the Bavarian municipal code. Rights of the Reuss Princely House in the Reitzenstein area were replaced by the Kingdom of Bavaria. In 1876 the Reitzenstein volunteer fire brigade was founded. In 1889 the barons of Reitzenstein bought back their headquarters.

20th century

Before the First World War , on December 1, 1910, the community had 483 inhabitants. After the Second World War , the population in Reitzenstein increased enormously, from 1939 to 1950 by a total of 81 percent. The reason was the large number of displaced people who found a new home there after the war. In 1955, the independent municipality of Reitzenstein in the Naila district consisted of the villages Reitzenstein, Eichenstein and Griesbach, the hamlets of Brand and Wolfstein and the desert areas of Einsiedel, Kupferbühl and Sinterrasen. In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality of Reitzenstein was assigned to the district of Hof in 1972 and in 1978 was essentially part of the municipality of Issigau . The hamlet of Brand bei Hölle came to the town of Naila .
