A book for the city is a selected book that has been the focus of an annual campaign since 2003 to promote literature and literary understanding in Cologne and the region between the Eifel and Bergisches Land . The initiators are the Literaturhaus Köln and the daily newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger .

The book selected by the initiators in spring / summer will be the subject of numerous events in autumn of the year: readings , lectures, discussions, plays , up to meals in restaurants or readings in the tram. Anyone can participate with an action, individuals as well as literary circles , bookstores or school classes.

The selected book will be issued as a special edition and sold in bookshops in the region at a particularly low price.
