Work description

According to the publisher's information, the work is intended to replace the alphabetical index of all the locations [...] contained in the Rezatkkreis, published in 1818 , since it has become unusable due to the changes in the administration that have taken place in the meantime. From this statement it can be concluded that it was the second directory of its kind. For its part, it was to be replaced by the Statistical Manual and Address Book of Middle Franconia in the Kingdom of Bavaria , which appeared in 1846 .

The work consists of an explanation of the procedure (pp. I – X), the statistical part divided into ten sections (pp. 1–266), a misprint correction (pp. 267–268) and an attached main overview. A list of abbreviations can be found on p. VII.

The ten departments are:

  1. Alphabetical index of all places in the Rezatkreis (pp. 1–125). The listing takes place with consecutive numbering. The affiliation to the judicial district, rent office , parish and school district is indicated as well as the type of location. The distinction between the types of place was taken from the directory published in 1818: mill , desert (1–3 houses), hamlet (4–12) and village (12 and more), church village , parish village , market and town . The distinction between hamlet and village based on the number of houses remains fuzzy, as the size is only an approximate guideline (“usually”). The place types are differentiated if necessary ([place type] "with church", "with bath", "with castle"), which was not yet done in the previous list from 1818. The spelling of the place names as well as the consecutive numbering also differ from this work. In the case of parish villages, there is additional information on the parish places and the parish's right of occupation.
  2. Directory of all places systematically subdivided according to the respective judicial and police districts (pp. 126–230). The judicial districts appear in the order cities with immediate magistrates (p 127-130), Royal district courts (p 130-215) and domination courts (pp 215-230). The respective judicial districts are in turn subdivided into municipalities. For each municipality, the associated districts are listed, if necessary, as well as the total number of residential buildings , families and residents, the municipality area in daily work (subdivided into settlement area, agriculturally used and unused area) and the resulting property tax . For the individual locations there is only information on the number of residential buildings, families and residents, but also additional notes on patrimonial jurisdiction or earlier affiliation in the Old Kingdom .
  3. The criminal judicial districts of the Rezatkreis (p. 230).
  4. The rent offices of the Rezatkreis (pp. 231–233).
  5. The building districts of the Rezatkreis (p. 234).
  6. The forest offices of the Rezatkreis (pp. 235–244).
  7. The magistrates and patrimonial courts of the Rezatkreis (pp. 245–246).
  8. Compilation of the deaneries with information on finances (Protestant: pp. 247–253, Catholic: pp. 253–256) and population by religion (pp. 256–257).
  9. Compilation of schools with information on finances (Protestant: pp. 258–262, Catholic: pp. 262–263, Israeli: p. 264).
  10. Landwehr (pp. 265-266).

According to the publisher, the date of the statistical surveys is 1835/36 with the exception of that on p. 256f. attached information, which is said to be based on a census of 1833. It is not explained which censuses are involved, the censuses of the German Customs Union are excluded, as they were collected in December 1834 and December 1837.
