The Norwegian has been part of the Peer Gynt Alpinklubb since 1990 , first as an alpine skier , and in 1992 he began telemarking. In 2001 Rykhus started in the FIS Telemark World Cup for the first time . Since then he has won 38 World Cup races and the overall World Cup ranking several times. At world championships, Rykhus is also the dominant telemark skier with 11 gold medals (including the overall ranking). He won his first medal at the 2003 World Cup in Whitefish, Montana ; most recently he was successful at the Telemark World Championships in 2009 on Kreischberg . At the Telemark World Championships 2011 he won gold in giant slalom, bronze in the classic race and reached 10th place in the sprint classic discipline.
Rykhus has won 16 Norwegian championship titles so far.
In the civilian profession, Eirik Rykhus is a medical technician at Rikshospitalet in Oslo . His younger sister Sigrid is a successful telemarker herself.
