Sigrid Rykhus (born May 8, 1984 in Lillehammer ) is a Norwegian telemark skier and ski crosser . Like her older brother Eirik , she is multiple world champion in telemarking.

Career

Rykhus started skiing in 1990 at the Peer Gynt Alpinklubb . First alpine skier, she tried telemark skiing at the age of 10. She made her debut in the Telemark World Cup on March 17th, 2002 . In 2002 and 2003 she finished 31st in the overall World Cup. At her first World Championships in 2003 in Big Mountain, she came tenth in the Classic race. In the 2004 season she won her first World Cup race and three other podium places in Rjukan. In the overall World Cup ranking, she took third place, also fourth in the Classic, Giant Slalom and fifth in the Classic Sprint. She achieved 12 victories and the first overall World Cup victory in the 2005 season . At the second World Championships in 2005 in Beitostølen , she won the gold medal in the Classic Sprint race, the silver medal in the giant slalom and eighth place in the Classic. As in previous seasons, she was able to fight for victory again in the 2006 season , she succeeded three times and finished the season in fourth place in the overall World Cup. At the beginning of the first World Cup in Trysil in 2007 she drove twice, in Rjukan once in first place and at the end of the season she won the overall World Cup for the second time. At her third World Championships in Thyon in 2007 , she again won the gold medal Classic Sprint and fourth place in the giant slalom. With six wins she crowned the overall World Cup for the third time in the 2008 season. In the 2009 season she only contested four World Cups, of which she won three races. In the end she was fifth in the overall standings. In her fourth participation in the 2009 World Championships in Kreischberg , she won the gold medal in the Classic, Classic Sprint and overall (Classic, Classic Sprint and Giant Slalom) and the bronze medal in Giant Slalom.

She wanted to go to the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver , so before her debut on February 19, 2009 she started in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup 2008/09 in the Freestyle Skiing European Cup and in FIS ski cross races . Her best place in the World Cup to date was achieved in March with 15th place in the race in Grindelwald . In addition, she became Norwegian runner-up in 2009. In order to achieve her goal of participating in the Olympics, Sigrid Rykhus wanted to concentrate entirely on ski cross in the 2009/10 season . But already during training for the first World Cup race in Innichen , South Tyrol , she suffered a broken rib and a ruptured spleen . It could therefore only start again at the Norwegian championships in April 2010 (4th place).

After the injury and not taking part in the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, she turned back to telemark sport. After returning to the Telemark World Cup in the middle of the season , she was able to race for victories again. She won one race each in Espot and Hafjell and was fifth in the overall World Cup, third in the Classic and Classic Sprint and ninth in the giant slalom. At the 2011 World Championships in Rjukan, she drove home the gold medal in front of her home crowd in the Classic race. In the giant slalom, classic sprint and overall, Rykhus won the silver medal. At the beginning of the 2012 season she won two FIS races in Geilo . She won eight World Cup races in the 2012 World Cup season. In the overall World Cup she took second place, in the Classic third place, in the Classic Sprint the second place and she won the World Cup discipline parallel sprint. On January 6, 2013, she won the FIS race in Aandalsnes . In the 2013 World Cup season, she won six World Cup races. At the end of the season, she won two gold and one silver medal at the 2013 World Championships in Espot .
