The museum has its origins in the idea of creating a touristic shuttle service to the Museum of Folk Architecture of the Central Bohemian Uplands, which was being built at the time. In 1988 the section Velké Březno –Zubrnice of the local railway Großpriesen – Wernstadt – Auscha, which was closed in 1978, was declared a museum railway. In 1993, individual special trips were carried out with the 423.009 locomotive with great participation by the population. Since 2016, the Usti District has financed tourist traffic on weekends and public holidays from spring to autumn.

It was not until 1996 that today's Railway Museum was built on the site of the railway station in Zubrnice, which was put into practice with a considerable collection of trolleys on the station site.

Since October 2010, the section from Velké Březno to Zubrnice of the former Großpriesen – Wernstadt – Auscha local railway has served as a feeder for the museum. For this, visitors from the Elbe Valley to Zubrnice are offered the challenging route with a 40 ‰ gradient. The operator of the museum owns a considerable number of operational “Hurvinek” railcars, with which he has recently carried out several special trips across the country. The driving days can be found on the website of the museum operator. In total, there are still tracks from Zubrnice to Lovečkovice . To what extent this section should be reactivated remains to be seen.

The museum is open from May to September every day except Mondays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., in April and October from Friday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to its location near the border, the museum is also easy to reach for visitors from Germany. We also recommend a visit to the Museum of Folk Architecture in Zubrnice. Moreover, the wider area also has hiking trails, hiking destinations are especially the mountain Buková hora ( zinc stone ) with the striking television stations and the natural monument Magnetovec with the stone mushroom Hřib Skalní .
