The railway accident at Szczekociny occurred on March 3, 2012 at 8:57 pm near the Polish city ​​of Szczekociny . At least 16 people were killed, including the two engine drivers , 57 were injured. The accident occurred on the railway line 64 ( Koniecpol - Kozłów ) in the powiat Miechowski near the village Chałupki, powiat Zawierciański .

Accident investigation

The Polish Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into the railway accident on March 4. On the following Monday, two dispatchers who were on duty at the time of the accident were taken into custody for questioning. One of the dispatchers, a woman, was released, the other could not be questioned due to his psychological condition. According to the public prosecutor's office, the evidence justified a charge against the Starzyny dispatcher on duty during the accident for negligently causing a railway accident. The dispatcher directed the train from Warsaw onto the wrong track .
