In 1559 the city was granted the right to bridge tolls and market rights by King Sigismund II August . In the 17th century the city was destroyed several times by wars and fires. In the 18th century Koniecpol lost its economic importance. In 1815 the city became part of Congress Poland . In 1827 a steel mill began to be built in the city. In the course of the January uprising against Russian rule in 1863, there were several skirmishes near the city. In 1870 the city's town charter was revoked by the tsar as a punitive action . The economic development was positively influenced by the opening of the railway line from Częstochowa to Kielce in 1903. In 1927 Koniecpol was granted city rights again.
1939 until today
On September 3, 1939, Koniecpol was occupied by the German Wehrmacht during the attack on Poland . As in all of Poland, there were mass murders, expulsions, rape and looting by the German occupying forces in Koniecpol. In December 1939, 1,000 people from Poznan and Wrześni were brought to the city. From October 1942 the Jews were brought to the concentration camps . The population of Koniecpol decreased by 30%.
