The Kielce – Fosowskie (Vossowska) railway is a continuously electrified and mostly double-track railway line in the Polish Voivodeships of Świętokrzyskie , Silesia and Opole .

Herby Stare Station (2008)

The Kielce – Fosowskie railway begins at Kielce station , where it branches off from the Warszawa – Kraków railway, and runs westwards from there. From Kielce Herbskie (km 2.254) or Szczukowice (km 10.712) there is a connection from the opposite direction towards Skarżysko-Kamienna - Warsaw or Jędrzejów - Krakow . The next long-distance traffic stop after Kielce is Bukowa (km 32.411), then Włoszczowa (km 47.735). A little further west, the Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie railway (Central Railway Main Line) crosses , the next long-distance train station is Żelisławice (km 59.716), where trains from Kielce have to turn towards Warsaw to get onto the Central Railway Main Line. At the nearest station, Koniecpol (km 71.478), long-distance trains from the Kozłów – Koniecpol railway line join the route. However, there are no long-distance trains between Żelisławice and Koniecpol. The route runs from Koniecpol westward into the urban area of Częstochowa and first runs as a freight bypass in the south of the city, and then runs north to the long-distance train station Częstochowa Stradom (km 117.223). The Częstochowa station as the city's main train station is not affected by the route. The Warszawa – Katowice railway line crosses in Czestochowa , and the Chorzów – Tczew railway line , the coal mainline , at Herby Stare (km 134.666) . The next long-distance train station is Lubliniec (Lublinitz / Loben; km 152.231), from there the route continues westwards to its end point Fosowskie (Vossowska / Vosswalde; km 175.736).

State of development

The Kielce – Fosowskie railway line is electrified with three thousand volts of direct current and has two tracks between Kielce and Lubliniec.

Up to the kilometer point 2,800, the maximum speed for passenger trains is seventy kilometers per hour, up to the kilometer point 10,200 hundred, and then up to the end of the route almost consistently over a hundred. For freight trains it is usually eighty kilometers per hour.

history

The first section, Herby - Lublinitz , was opened on January 1, 1892 by the Prussian State Railways . The continuation to Vossowska followed on October 10, 1894. On the Russian side, a narrow-gauge line was first opened in 1903 between Herby and Czestochowa from the Gerbsko-Chelesnyja doroga (Russian). It was converted to European standard gauge by 1911 and was opened on February 26, 1911 , along with the continuation to Kielce . The company was now called Gerbsko-kielezkaja schelesnyja doroga .

After the First World War , the route east of Pluder came to Poland, after the Second World War the rest of the route.

Around 1955 the route at Częstochowa was re-routed.

The first section was electrified until November 28, 1965, the Częstochowa – Herby section, followed by Herby – Lubliniec (October 15, 1973), Koniecpol – Częstochowa (December 29, 1973), Kielce – Koniecpol (December 4, 1974) and finally Lubliniec – Fosowskie (December 18, 1976).

On November 3, 1976, the Julianka train accident occurred with 25 dead and 79 injured.

The route has been extensively renovated since 2010. Between Lubliniec and Fosowskie, where it does not stop, there is currently only long-distance traffic with the exception of a pair of trains on Fridays and Sundays. No long-distance traffic is operated only between Żelisławice and Koniecpol and on the section in Częstochowa, on which the line forms the freight bypass.
