Holy Trinity Church

Jędrzejów [ jɛndˈʒɛjuf ] is a city in Poland in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name and the Powiat Jędrzejowski .

Jędrzejów is located in the south of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship and is the eponymous place for the Jędrzejów ( Płaskowyż Jędrzejowski ) part of the Nida lowlands ( Niecka Nidziańska ).

history

The settlement called Brzeźnica , which was established in the 7th century, formed the basis for the village . In 1140 Janik founded the Jędrzejów Monastery . Probably in 1153 the name of the place was changed to Jędrzejów. 1271 the town was granted by Boleslaw V. city charter by Magdeburg Law . In 1510 the town charter of Jędrzejów was confirmed by Sigismund I and the town got the right to hold a weekly market and three times a year a fair . In 1705 a severe fire raged in the city. During the Third Partition of Poland , Jędrzejów came to Austria in 1795 . With the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw , the city became part of it and, in 1815, part of Congress Poland . Two years later, or only in 1869, Jędrzejów lost its town charter. In 1885 it was connected to the rail network. In 1916 the place received city rights again. After the First World War , the place became part of the re-established Poland . In September 1939 the Wehrmacht marched in and occupied the city. In the spring of 1940 a ghetto was established that existed until September 1942. The occupation ended in 1945 with the invasion of the Red Army and the city became part of Poland again. In 1999 Jędrzejów became the seat of a powiat .

In north-south direction the European route 77 leads , at the same time state road 7 ( droga krajowa 7 ), which leads after about 30 kilometers in a north direction through Kielce and 65 kilometers through Krakow . State road 78 leads from east to west . This leads in the southwest after about 80 kilometers into the Upper Silesian industrial area around Katowice and ends in the east after 30 kilometers in Chmielnik .

The city has a connection to the PKP rail network . The Jędrzejów long-distance train station and the Potok and Krzcięcice stops are on the Warsaw – Kraków railway line . The Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa also runs through the municipality.

The nearest international airport is John Paul II Airport in Krakow-Balice . This is about 70 kilometers south of Jędrzejów.
