Herby is a rural municipality in the Polish Silesian Voivodeship . Polish and German names are the same.

history

The municipality as well as the core town of Herby lie on the border of the historical landscapes of Lesser Poland and Silesia . So there was a Silesian Herby (Herby Śląskie), from the Silesian Wars of Frederick the Great until 1922 Prussian Herby (Herby Pruskie), and a Polish Herby (Herby Polskie), from the Third Partition of Poland to the First World War, Russian Herby (Herby Ruskie).

With the division of Upper Silesia , the Silesian part of Herby came from the German Empire to the Second Polish Republic and belonged to the Autonomous Voivodeship of Silesia .

In 1892 Herby got a rail connection on Prussian-German territory to Lublinitz ( Lubliniec ). A cross-border rail connection was only realized here in 1903, impaired by a lane change; the Russian route from Kielce via Czestochowa to Herby was laid out in Cape Gauge. Today the connection Częstochowa – Herby – Lubliniec – Opole is a standard-gauge electrified main line, in the district of Lisów there is another station on this line.

The construction of the carbon highway , the railway Chorzów-Tczew that passes west at the nucleus, in addition to the settlement nearby former Prussian station Herby Stare as a hub of Herby Nowe station to which the originated railway Herby-Oleśnica branches off from the carbon highway.

Today, the Herby Stare station only serves regional traffic for the Przewozy Regionalne and the building of the former Russian train station one kilometer east of it no longer serves rail traffic.
