Eitorfer fair
The Eitorfer Kirmes in the center of Eitorf is the largest fair in the Rhein-Sieg district . It takes place the weekend before the last Tuesday in September and attracts tens of thousands of visitors annually.
history
The Eitorfer Kirmes does not go back to the Kirchweih festival , but to the wax interest day . This was ordered in 1145 in the will of Count Gerhard von Bonn, who gave the Michaelsberg Abbey half of his allod in Eitorf and its inhabitants, who were supposed to pay their wax interest on Mauritius Day. In 2000 the Eitorfer fair took place for the 855th time.
In 1589, Duke Wilhelm von Gülich, Cleve, Bergh approved for "Eitorff located in our Ambt Blankenberg [...] two annual markets, namely one on the first Sunday before S. Martin and the second on the next Sunday before Philippi and Jacobi or Mäytag". The latter was the actual parish fair and is no longer celebrated today.
procedure
The Eitorfer Kirmes will open on Saturday at 2 p.m. after a concert by the mayor. After an opening speech and greeting of the guests of honor, the fair begins with the traditional tapping of the keg.
On Sundays there is a brass concert in the tent in front of the Catholic Church after the service at 11 a.m.
The fair ends on Tuesday at 9 p.m. with a large fireworks display. This has already been ignited from various places, such as the old cemetery and the roof of the town hall, where a fire subsequently broke out in 2009.
Fairground
The original fair took place on the Wüllesfeld , today's Siegpark or sports ground.
The area of the modern fair extends from Brückenstraße from the level crossing to Asbacher Straße Höhe Mittelstraße. In addition to the market and the Posthof, Goethestrasse and Schmidtgasse are the focal points of the fair. There is a Plutenmarkt in Cäcilienstraße , which used to be located on Kirchstraße. The Bahnhofstrasse was added in 2011 .
Rides
The largest amusement ride is the Ferris wheel on Brückenstraße. In 2010 it was the 48 meter high Moulin Rouge . In addition there was the X-Factor , the roller coaster Wild Mouse , the Giant Swing The Real Nessy , the whirligig Wave Swinger , a bumper cars , a Break Dancer , the shaker and the 42 meter high Freak and six kiddie rides and a giant slide.
Booths
In addition to a few other stand attractions, there are also shooting, throwing and lottery booths , the Kentucky Derby horse racing game and sales stands, as well as numerous food and drink stands, which are often club-owned. The local clubs use the opportunity of a private parking space or take part in the raffle for public parking spaces and offer drinks for one euro.
Restaurants
In the fair area you can avoid the autumn weather in some club tents and covered seats, but since this is in the center of the village, twelve restaurants and cafes also offer admission.
Signposting
In addition to the restaurants, four well-signposted public toilet vehicles are available for the needs of the guests. The stationing of the Red Cross opposite the church for first aid services is also signposted. New in 2010 was eye-catching signage for escape routes.

The fairgrounds are only two hundred meters from the Eitorfer train station .
In addition, commuter buses are set up on the days of the fair that run every half hour or hour. The northern departure point at the Hauptschule Brückenstraße serves the Halft , Alzenbach and Bitze route . The southern departure point on Asbacher Straße Höhe Gasthof Dresen serves the villages of Scheidsbach, Mühleip and Eitorfer Switzerland .
Others
The Eitorfer schools traditionally have a day off on the Monday of the fair .
