Elaine Fine
Elaine Fine (born April 30, 1959 in Cleveland / Ohio ) is an American composer and flautist.
Fine first played the violin before studying flute at the Juilliard School of Music with Julius Baker . After graduating with a bachelor's degree, she taught at the Schladming Town Music School in Austria. She then taught recorder at the Musikhochschule in Vienna with Hans Maria Kneihs , baroque flute with Christopher Kruger in Boston and composition with Peter Hesterman at Eastern Illinois University .
She has taught classical music at Eastern Illinois University and Lake Land College, and has performed as a violinist, violist, and recorder player. She was violist with the LeVeck String Quartet and first violist with the Eastern Symphony Orchestra for ten years . In addition to numerous chamber music works, she composed an opera based on Hans Christian Andersen's “Snow Queen” and some orchestral pieces.
