Elaine Joyce (* 19th December 1945 as Elaine Joyce Pinchot in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American actress .

Life

Joyce made her film debut in 1961 as an extra without credit in the credits in the musical adaptation West Side Story . She appeared in other unnamed film roles in the years that followed, including Music Man and Bye Bye Birdie . She also played a few guest roles in television series. With the beginning of the 1970s, her career initially picked up speed; in 1971 she was seen at the side of Dyan Cannon and James Coco in Otto Preminger's comedy So Good Friends . The following year she made her debut on Broadway , where she played the title role of Sugar in over 500 performances in the original production based on Billy Wilder's comedy Some Like It Hot . She received the Theater World Award for her performance .

In the following years she could not repeat her success. She starred numerous guest roles in series such as Quincy , Charlie's Angels and Magnum and was only seen occasionally in film productions, including the horror film Ragman from 1986. From 1981 to 1982 she had a lead role in the short-lived fantasy series Mr. Merlin ; From 1995 to 1996 she had a recurring role in Beverly Hills, 90210 .

Joyce was married to actor Bobby Van from 1968 until his death in 1980, and the marriage resulted in a daughter. From 1985 she was married to the television producer John Levoff, from this marriage, which was divorced in 1992, she has a son. In her third marriage, she lived with Neil Simon from 1999 until his death in 2018 .
