Elcrodat is a group of widely used in Europe cryptosystems the company Rohde & Schwarz SIT , previously Bosch Telecom (ANT) in Backnang .

The system Elcrodat 6-2 were prepared by the BSI for the encrypted transmission of voice, data, ISDN -fax and video conferencing to the level of secrecy Top Secret admitted. It uses a hybrid encryption technique consisting of symmetric and asymmetric encryption . To encrypt the payload one is proprietary , symmetric procedure used. Key exchange and certificate management use an asymmetrical procedure.

The Elcrodat 6-2 is approved for the transmission of classified information of all national degrees of secrecy of the Federal Republic of Germany in compliance with other security guidelines. The cryptosystem is used by all German security authorities. The information network Berlin-Bonn as well as NATO and the European Union also use Elcrodat.

In connection with the investigation into the alleged spy Herman Simm , a report by SPIEGEL is investigating whether he has forwarded documents about the functioning of Elcrodat to the Russian secret service.
