information Also known as Elebits .

Eledees (outside Australia and Europe Elebits ) is a video game by Konami that was released for the Nintendo Wii in 2007 . Along with Wii Sports, it is considered to be one of the first games that was specifically developed taking into account the console's control element, which was new to date, and was praised by critics for it.

The aim of the game is to find and catch as many hidden eledees as possible in real environments, such as a child's room, by lifting things such as everyday objects or furniture.

Setting

The Eledees are described as tiny, flying beings from which all energy for household items and the like comes. After a storm there is a total blackout , and the protagonist of the game, a young boy, goes in search of Eledees, whose disappearance turns out to be the cause of the failure.

Gameplay

The game is played in the first person perspective of the protagonist. With the analog stick of the Nunchuk expansion, the character is moved, while the Wii remote control ( Wiimote for short ) is reserved for operating a radiation device. This device can be used to raise objects in the game sections (level) in order to find eledees underneath. In such a case the beam is used to catch the eledees.

The aim of each level is to accumulate a certain amount of electrical power (expressed in watts ). Each Eledee is assigned a certain performance, which also depends on whether the Eledee was caught asleep or fleeing, for example. If you have collected a certain amount of power, the player can switch on non-functional devices beforehand in order to find more Eledees. The radiation device can also be reinforced in each level in order to lift larger objects; in later levels you can raise entire houses this way.

In the multiplayer mode, up to four players collect Eledees against each other.

In an editing mode, players can design their own levels and add hidden elements. These levels can be used in multiplayer mode and sent to other players via the console's online mode ( WiiConnect24 ).

Reviews

The game received average reviews. It received awards for Best Wii Action Game 2006, Wii Game with Most Innovative Design in 2006, and Game with Best Use of Wii Remote Control 2006 from IGN and the Future Award (CESA Japan Game Award 2006).

The game's controls and physics engine were praised . The boring presentation of the framework and the lack of variety in the course of the game were noticed negatively. Ayse Kaya writes for the Gamezone site : “ The story in" Eledees "is presented in a disappointingly simple way - namely in simple pictures with a setting that is in English. The corresponding German translation is displayed in text form. [...] "Eledees" knows how to please at the beginning with its gameplay, which is completely based on the motion-sensitive controller. [...] but after a while the game with repetitive actions becomes monotonous and boring. The installation of puzzles or other people with whom one can interact would have helped, but unfortunately this was not done. And so with "Eledees" you get a title that demonstrates the possibilities of the Wii-Remote well, but with a gameplay that is far too simple and not very varied, it does not fascinate and inspire for long. "

Matt Casamassina (IGN) notes that the physics shown in the game were too simple, as was the graphic presentation.

“It's clear that the title was hatched from the very beginning for Nintendo's new console and it's refreshing to encounter a game that could not be done well on any other videogame system. I have to note, it really is a lot of fun just to pick up items and toss them around in the worlds that Konami has created; it feels great. [...] But the game does have its limitations. For one, the physics are not quite as tight as they could be. Whether you're picking up a diesel truck or a flower pot, the objects will have the same floaty, bouncy feel to them. And further, while the game does a lot with physics, it doesn't do much with visuals, which means that the worlds and objects you encounter will have a blocky, dithered look to them. "
