from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elektra is the name of a comic series around the comic character of the same name from the US publisher Marvel Comics . Elektra was invented by Frank Miller and first appeared in Daredevil # 168 in January 1981 . Her name is derived from Elektra , the daughter of the Mycenaean king Agamemnon . The figure of Elektra is an assassin and a Kunoichi , armed with two sais .

The figure

When she first appeared in the comic, Elektra (full name: Elektra Natchios ) is a hit man who works for Daredevil's opponent Kingpin . In flashbacks, the reader learns that Elektra and Matt Murdock, who later became Daredevil, met while studying together and became lovers. The death of her father, who was accidentally hit by a policeman's bullet, destroys Elektra's worldview and she disappears from Murdock's life. Full of anger and sadness, their only goal is mastery of the martial arts. She initially pursues this with the order “The Chaste”, and then further training in Japan with the ninja organization “Die Hand”.

Upon her return to America, she works for any villain who pays her enough. Although Daredevil despises this attitude to life, he supports her when she has to defend herself against "The Hand". Kingpin orders her to kill Daredevil's friend and partner. When the two face each other, he recognizes Elektra as the student from her youth. The memory of the old days arouses scruples in Elektra and she lets her victim live. Bullseye, another hit man Kingpins, uses this weakness to improve his position. He kills Elektra with her own sais , she dies in the arms of Daredevil.

Electra's body is resuscitated in Daredevil # 190/191 by a hand ceremony. Daredevil overpowers the hand, but can still complete the ceremony. Elektra breaks up with Daredevil to find her peace.

Comic series

Marvel brought out a series by the cartoonist Mike Deodato and the author Peter Milligan in 1996 . Milligan tried to show Elektra not only as a killer, and introduced a number of supporting characters into the series. The success was only moderate and Marvel hired the writer Larry Hama , who gave the series a new, action-heavy concept. But that didn't increase sales either, the series was canceled after 19 episodes. Hama also wrote for Wolverine and introduced Elektra there as a supporting character.

Another series appeared at the imprint Marvel Knights . Here the draftsmen and authors changed frequently, which led to the fact that Electra's character portrayal always took on different traits. The crime writer Greg Rucka made Elektra think about the meaning of her actions, Robert Rodi made her an emotionless killer again. There were 36 episodes. Both series were published in German translation by Panini .

Elektra appears in a few miniseries. An 8-part mini-series ( Elektra: Assassin ) and a 4-part series, in which the Daredevil episodes with Elektra were summarized, appeared on Marvel. Frank Miller produced the graphic novel Elektra lives again , which was published as an oversized hardcover . Elektra got appearances in other miniseries like Glimpse an Echo , Wolverine / Elektra: The Redeemer , Ultimate Elektra and Elektra: The Hand .
