Elemer Kocsis (born February 26, 1910 in Nagyszalonta , Austria-Hungary , † October 6, 1981 ) was a Romanian football player of Hungarian descent. He completed 119 games in the highest Romanian soccer league, Divizia A , and took part in the 1930 World Cup.

Career as a player

Kocsis started playing soccer in his hometown of Salonta at NSC Salonta. In 1928 he moved to CAO Oradea , one of the best clubs in the region. Since CAO was one of the founding members of the professional league Divizia A in 1932, Kocsis came there for his first assignment on September 11th. With CAO he played two regularly for the championship, but the greatest success is only the runner-up in the 1934/35 season behind Ripensia Timișoara .

In 1937, after nine years left Kocsis CAO and switched to Tricolor Ploiesti , which in the second-rate Divizia B played. The rise in 1938 was followed by immediate descent, followed by renewed rise in 1940. After the war-related interruption of league operations from 1941 to 1946, a renewed rise followed in 1947. After the 1947/48 season, Kocsis ended his career at the age of 38.

National team

Kocsis came from 1931 to 1933 on twelve missions for the Romanian national soccer team and scored five goals. He made his debut on May 10, 1931 against Bulgaria . Although Kocsis had not yet played an international match, national coach Costel Rădulescu had nominated him a year earlier for the World Cup in Uruguay , but did not use him.

Career as a coach

In the 1953 season , Kocsis was the head coach of Progresul Oradea in Divizia A and finished last with the club, but was not relegated because CA Câmpulung Moldovenesc had disbanded. In the first half of the 1955 season he looked after Avântul Reghin and was then released from his duties while in last place.
