Autumn in the hill country

The part of the Bergisch-Märkische hilly landscape south of the Ruhr near Elfringhausen between Hattingen , Wuppertal , Sprockhövel and Velbert is called Elfringhauser Schweiz . Two deep stream valleys, the Deilbachtal and the Felderbachtal , are framed by elevations, some of which are 300 m high, and numerous sieves lead from the mountain slopes into the valleys.

The area, also called "Hattinger hills," one west of the Deilbachs ( Part Bach , d. H. Grenzbach) to the central mountain region Bergisches Land , while the area east of it the Brandenburg part of Westphalia belongs. In addition to agriculture and forestry, the hill country is primarily used as a recreation area. The Bergerhof south of Hattingen, first mentioned in a document in 1482, is a popular starting point for many hiking trails .

The area is of geological interest because on the south-eastern edge some of the southernmost layers of the hard coal mountain range and the oldest documented hard coal mines in the Ruhr area were located in the area . With the former pit Niederheide the mine Old Haase is located in the Elfringhauser Switzerland's southernmost colliery colony of the Ruhr area.

The elevations include Schieferberg, Winterberg (315 m), Kottenberg, Sahlberg, Hölterberg, Eberg, Juttermannsberg (273 m), Immelberg, Ottoplatte, Hordtberg (245 m), Hansberg (228 m), Homberg, Nonnenberg, Kahlenberg and Zipperberg.
