Elie Amsini Kiswaya (born August 25, 1928 in Kindu , Maniema Province , Belgian Congo , † December 11, 2008 ) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Sakania-Kipushi .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy, Elie Amsini Kiswaya was ordained a priest on July 26, 1959 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Sakania in 1975. He was ordained bishop on February 21, 1976 by the Archbishop of Léopoldville, Cardinal Joseph-Albert Malula ; Co- consecrators were Eugène Kabanga Songasonga , Archbishop of Lubumbashi, and Albert Onyembo Lomandjo CSSP, Bishop of Kindu. In 1977, under his leadership, the name was changed to the diocese of Sakania-Kipushi. He led the diocese under the difficult conditions of the rule of Mobutu Sese Seko until his resignation in 1997 and the re-establishment of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from the former Zaïre under Laurent-Désiré Kabila .

His age-related resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II in 2001.
