Elie Barnavi (* 1946 in Bucharest ) is an Israeli historian and former ambassador to France .

biography

Barnavi emigrated to Israel with his parents at the age of 12. There he studied history and political science at Jerusalem University and Tel Aviv University . He then continued his studies in Paris at the Sorbonne .

He was Professor of Modern Western History at Tel Aviv University and has retired. Barnavi is a member of Shalom Achshaw and the Meretz-Jachad , the left-wing Zionist party in Israel. From June 1998 to December 2000 he was the founding director of the European Museum in Brussels and is now a member of its scientific advisory board, previously he was the head of the scientific advisory board. From December 2000 to October 2002 he was the Israeli ambassador to France .

He was visiting professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris .

In September 2010 he was involved in the founding of the Spinelli Group , which advocates European federalism .
