Eliezer ben Joel HaLevi
Elieser ben Joel HaLevi from Bonn (also known as ראבי"ה Ra'avja ; * around 1140 ; probably died around 1225 ) was a rabbinical scholar from Germany.
Life
Eliezer ben Joel's maternal grandfather was Elieser ben Nathan from Mainz . He was trained and instructed by his father, Joel ha-Levi from Bonn, and by Judah he-Ḥasid and Juda ben Kalonymos from Mainz. Eliezer's brother Uri died a martyr in 1216, which had a strong impact on him. He often went from place to place in his life. He worked in Bonn , Warmeisa , Würzburg , Magenza , Cologne , Regensburg and traveled all over France and Lombardy .
He had a strong influence on Asher ben Jechiel and became a sought-after scholar in communities, so that he was often offered the position of rabbi. However, he always refused, believing that the Torah should neither gain fame nor benefit. However, when he was robbed around 1200 and his father urged him to accept an offer as a rabbi, he became rabbi of Cologne and enjoyed a great reputation.
Works
His main work is Sefer Avi HaEzri (My help is my father). It is a compendium of articles that were later collected in a book. He also wrote numerous responsa , ie “ Sche'elot u teschuvot” (collections of responses , questions and answers during judicial processes or for halachic matters) and also wrote Tosafot as well as Likutim and Pijutim .
