Elisabeth Piirainen

Elisabeth Martha Ellinor Piirainen , née Elisabeth Dörrie , (born January 12, 1943 in Hanover ; † December 29, 2017 ) was a German linguist .

Life

After studying linguistics (including German and Dutch studies ) in Münster, Amsterdam and Helsinki, she received her doctorate in 1970 as Dr. Phil. At the University of Münster . She then worked as a lecturer for German at the Jyväskylä University in central Finland . In 1963 she met the Finnish German scholar Ilpo Tapani Piirainen and married him in 1967. Since 1975 she has been in charge of various projects on Low German philology. From 2006 to 2010 she was on the Science Council of the European Society for Phraseology (Europhras). She lived in Steinfurt in Germany.
