Elisabeth Johanna Freifrau von und zu Guttenberg (born August 12, 1900 in Munich ; † February 13, 1998 there ; born Elisabeth Freiin von und zu der Tann-Rathsamhausen ) was a founder and chairwoman of several charitable institutions and organizations.

Life

She was the daughter of the Bavarian general of the infantry Luitpold von der Tann-Rathsamhausen (1847-1919) and his second wife Emma, ​​née Countess Mikes von Zabola (1869-1956).

Elisabeth married Georg Enoch Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg (1893–1940) in 1919 . She is the mother of the late CSU member of the Bundestag Karl Theodor Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg (1921–1972), the grandmother of the conductor Enoch zu Guttenberg (1946–2018) and the great-grandmother of the former Federal Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (* 1971).

After 1945 she headed the Caritas Commission of the Catholic Women's Associations in Bavaria, traveled to the United States as early as 1947 and collected numerous donations in kind and money for refugees. From 1957 to 1980 she headed the Working Group of Catholic Women in Bavaria . She helped set up consumer advisory services in Bavaria and advocated further training and systematic vocational training in domestic economics. From 1963 to 1967 Elisabeth zu Guttenberg was chairwoman of the Bavarian regional association of the Catholic German Women's Association . From 1974 to 1998 she was chairwoman of the Tolstoi Relief and Culture Association. By resolution of the city council on September 30, 2004, a street in Munich was named after her.

She received the Bavarian Order of Merit (1961), the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (1970), the Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit (1974) and the Papal Order " Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice ".

In 1957 she was from Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali for Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem appointed and in Munich by April 30, 1957 Lorenz Jaeger invested, Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy.
