Luitpold Freiherr von der Tann-Rathsamhausen (born April 19, 1847 in Munich , † August 5, 1919 in Weisendorf ) was a Bavarian general of the infantry .

Life

Luitpold was the eldest son of the Bavarian Major General Hugo von der Tann-Rathsamhausen (1817-1883) and his wife Johanna, born von Stetten (1826-1902), lady of honor of the Order of Theresa . His younger brother Ludwig (1850-1928) became major general, Rudolf (1855-1942) State Councilor and Bavarian envoy in Rome .

Military career

After graduating from a humanistic grammar school and the pagerie , Tann joined the 2nd Infantry Regiment "Crown Prince" of the Bavarian Army on June 24, 1866 as a second lieutenant . He was promoted to battalion adjutant in 1870 and took part in the war against France in the battles at Wörth , Beaumont , Sedan , Loigny and Poupry , Orléans and Beaugency and the enclosure and siege of Paris . Tann gave this command to his successor Ferdinand von Leoprechting and was appointed chief of the general staff of the 1st Army Corps on November 9, 1895. He was promoted to major general on July 20, 1896, and was appointed commander of the 10th Infantry Brigade . In the same capacity he took over on June 2, 1899, the 2nd Infantry Brigade and was as at April 15, 1901 lieutenant general to commander appointed the capital and residence city of Munich. From June 11, 1903 to April 8, 1905 he was commander of the 5th Division in Nuremberg and was then promoted to General of the Infantry Commanding General of the III. Army Corps . In approval of his resignation , Tann was put up for disposition on May 4, 1910 .

During the First World War , Tann was reused as a zD officer and acted from August 2, 1914 to September 3, 1918 as the commanding general of the deputy general command of the I. Army Corps in Munich.

He was an honorary doctor from the Technical University of Munich .

family

Tann had married Ludwine Countess von Hallwyl (1858-1883) on September 30, 1879 in Teplitz . After her untimely death on June 16, 1891 in Feldafing Emma married Countess Mikes von Zabola (1869–1956). The first marriage remained childless and the daughters Hilda (* 1892) and Elisabeth (1900-1998) left the second marriage .
